Strange Stains & Mysterious Smells

STIGMA FLORIDA

One of the old Celtic stains.  "When the Romans first came to Briton," the Stigma Florida told us, "my family already had connections with the druids on Anglesey.  We celebrated the Midwinter Festival and cut the mistletoe from the oak and apple.  But the Romans brought a new religion with them, and I found plenty of work to do in Monasteries up and down England.  Sometimes I would do no more that embarrass novitiates and younger monks, when the Abbot came to inspect their ben linen.

But on occasions, I would create a sensation by appearing on the altar cloth, or some similar location, and then you would hear cries of: "A miracle!  A miracle!  The face of Jesus!  It must be his shroud!" and so on.  I would amuse myself in this way, until the unfortunate Abbot would invite his Archbishop to come and attest to the miracle.  Then I would simply disappear.  It helped to pass the time, you understand."
Whereupon the Stigma Florida vanished before our eyes.
