It feels strange to be sitting at my desk again. We've been on the go since the beginning of October and have only returned home a few days ago. So - what have we been up to? Many of you will already know about FaerieCon. We attended the first ever FaerieCon in Philadelphia last month. It was quite amazing! We didn't know what to expect (being the first one) but were absolutely delighted with the welcome we had from the people of Philadelphia and also from the many people who travelled much further than that to attend. It was wonderful to walk into an indoor space (a HUGE space) that was devoted to all things Faerie. Brian and I were kept extremely busy signing and chatting to everyone who came to our booth and we apologise to anyone that we didn't get to visit with over the weekend but it was incredibly busy! The Good and Bad Faery Balls were fantastic! Needless to say, the Bad Faery Ball was even more fun than the Good one. The quality and thought put in to the costumes was truly impressive and the music - well - you had to be there. So many people worked incredibly hard to bring this all together. They all have our profound thanks and admiration.
Brian flew home after FaerieCon but I went on to visit my mother and family in northern Michigan. I was lucky enough to be there for the peak weekend which is when the colors of the trees are at their peak. I had forgotten just how stunning the colors can be. I'm so used to our gentle changing of the seasons in England that to be in the midst of an absolute riot of color was quite startling. Autumn is a slightly melancholy time in England. I mean that in a good sense. It's a time to contemplate life, changes and the coming winter. It's a time I look forward to. I love the sweet, sadness of it. But - autumn in Michigan made me feel like dancing in the leaves! Every tree was shouting and waving and saying, "Look at me!!!" Wonderful!
As soon as I returned home we were off again to Lucca, Italy for the huge convention Lucca Comics and Games. We have just returned from that and are still recovering from a very enjoyable week of being with many Italian friends both new and old, fantastic food and of course the beautiful town of Lucca and the surrounding countryside. So many thanks to all of the people who made our stay as brilliant as it was.
Now - on to the last event before Christmas. Brian and I are going to be in a gallery exhibition with Annie Ovenden and Charles Summers at The Cork Street Gallery in London again this year (I'll give you the details at the end of the message). We would love to see anyone who has the chance to come and visit for the week that the show is up. Brian and I will be there every day to meet people, sign books, and sell our original art and just talk to anyone visiting. This will be a very rare chance for people to see and buy Brian's original art. He doesn't show original pieces very often and it's even rarer for him to actually put them in an exhibition to sell. All four of us will have lots of new work on show. Please come - we'd love to see you.
I promise that next month will be a more contemplative message. In order to write that, I'll need to have at least a few days to be out in the garden to contemplate things before I can set them down for you to read! Until then - onward, ever onward! Have a wonderful November.
