Midsummer Night's Faery Tale

As the sculptor who made such famous film creatures as Yoda in the "Star Wars" series, the Gelflings in "The Dark Crystal", and numerous characters for "Labyrinth", Wendy Froud's extraordinary artwork brings magical realms vividly to life.  Like all the best fantasy creations (such as the worlds created by J.R.R. Tolkien, and in the best-selling Harry Potter books), Wendy's richly imaginative creations are beloved by both children and adults.  In A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S FAERY TALE she opens a door into an enchanted world of faery heroes, villains, and dazzling magic.
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S FAERY TALE is the first collaboration between Wendy Froud and the award-winning writer/editor Terri Windling, who has been a powerful force in the development of modern fantasy and mythic literature.  Here, Terri has re-visited the faery court of Shakespeare's timeless play to create a delightful new tale of faery romance and adventure.  Inspired by Wendy's gorgeous art, faery folklore, and mythology, she has created a classic story of good versus evil, true love, and the power of simple truths.

At the heart of the story is Sneezle -- an adorably clumsy and furry young faery who is a mere 200 years old.  The tale takes place during a single day, from dawn to dusk on Midsummer's Eve.  The faery court of Old Oak Wood, gathering for the annual solstice celebration, is unaware that a traitor is plotting to steal the Faery Queen's crown.  Sneezle becomes the unliley hero who must journey into the dark of the woods, where a magic sword, the Midsummer crown, and his destiny await him.

Other characters include: King Oberon and his Queen Titania, the famous lovers of the faery realm.  Twig, a shy faery seamstress who becomes Sneezle's friend and sidekick.  Rianna, a stunningly beautiful faery, who may be much, much more than she seems.  Uncle Starbucket, a wise old troll who dispenses advice from his underground home.  And the Guardian, a bad-tempered wizard in the oldest oak grove of the forest.

The pages of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S FAERY TALE come alive with Wendy's breathtaking creations--faeries, brownies, piskies, trolls, sylphs and gnomes--all vividly realized and captured in lush, full-color photographs.  Wendy's creatures have captivated film audiences, doll collectors and fantasy art fans all over the world.  Terri Windling's deliciously mythic fiction has an equally loyal following.  The collaboration between these two talents has resulted in pure magic.

Sophisticated, intelligent touches and sprinkles of humor make this book a sparkling gem and the perfect gift for all ages.

Sneezle took some time to chat with WorldofFroud.com about his adventures and his journey through the USA.
